Come November 6th, 2018, the United States Senate Election will take place in Arizona. Voters can choose between candidates to represent them and the state in the Senate. Below are the current confirmed declared candidates and their positions.

Republican Candidates

Joe Arpaio

Former Maricopa County Sherrif is running to be an Arizona Senator, pushing his immigration tactics for his platform. He was previously convicted for criminal contempt but was pardoned by President Trump, who Arpaio avidly supports. Following the president in forms of communication. He announced his campaign over twitter stating that he would “…support the agenda and policies of President Donald Trump in his mission to make America Great Again.”

Craig Britttain

The self described anarcho-capitalist, Craig Brittain began his campaign in September last year. Best known as the owner of a revenge porn site where women must pay upwards to $500 to have their images removed, Brittain wants to decriminalize marijuana, end all taxation, and abolish sever government organizations, not surprisingly including the Federal Trade Commission which he has received complaints from for his site. Like Arpaio, he supports the president and his agenda. Screenshots of his communications have been published of him not only being verbally abusive, but sexist and racist as well, howeer, he blames these on an impersonator. Brittain has another website up specifically for his campaign.

Christian “C.J.” Diegel

A financial planner, Diegel is a former member of the military, having been to Afghanistan and Iraq. He does not have a large presence but does have a website up for his campaign. Diegel plans to fight for policies benefiting Arizona and American businesses and military.

Michelle Griffin

Another candidate with a small internet prescence, Griffin also has a website up and holds a PhD, but in what she does not say. Her website does state however that her platform is “English First”, stating that you must use the national language if you live here (the Buena Pegasus would like to note here that there is no official or national language stated for the United States). Griffin also wants to review the GI Bill and does not want adult patients to be released from the hospital without family member approval. Other areas of her campaign include administration costs for education but is unclear exactly what about.

Martha McSally

Already an Arizona Congresswoman, McSally leads in senatorial race at the moment. She is the preferred candidate of national republicans and the Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. Previously having distanced herself from the president, she has now began to embrace him, with her campaign reminiscent of his immigration policy. The rest of her campaign however is similar to her campaign for Congress.

Nicholas Tutora

Tutora also has a website out and reveals that he has no political experience although he does hold a degree in political science. A personal development coach and registered pharmacist, he also supports the President’s immigration policy as well as the Second Amendment. He wants to address the student debt crisis and wants repeal and replace the current healthcare system we have now but does not say with what.

Kelli Ward

Kelli Ward can be found on her website for her her campaign. A former physician and Arizona Senator, she has three year of political experience where she passed legislation that supported business and schools as well as preserved the Second Amendment in the state. She supports border security, healthcare and tax reform, wants to reduce the national debt, and believes that religious symbols, references, and landmarks should remain in the public domain and that religious institutions should assist the country more than the federal government.

Democratic Candidates

Deedra Abboud

Phoenix based attorney, Abboud has served on many boards for Muslim relations with the American public, civil dialogue, and migrant rights. She has however, no federal political experience. She supports a single payer health care system, better education for the state, continuing the separation of church and state, net neutrality, environmental protections, restrictions on who can own a gun, immigration reform, and has more of her platform available on her website.

Bob Bishop

A small business owner and pilot, Bishop believes that communication should be dealt with in a bi-partisan, centered way. He has no mention of any political experience but describes himself as a compassionate capitalist. He wants a “clean legislation” concerning medicare and does not approve of the way bills are currently written and presented. He supports the Clear Act and wants to overturn legislation that allows companies to avoid usury laws. Bishop also hopes to work with the NRA regarding gun laws.

Chris Russell

Former member of the US Army and resident of Fort Huachuca, Russel lists many concerns on his campaign website. He also wants to see bipartisan communication and supports labor unions. He also believes that education and senior citizens should be more valued within the country. Russel wants medicare for all, net neutrality, and military restrictions.

Richard Sherzan

Former representative for Iowa, Sherzan previously ran in 2015 against John McCain. He has no website available at the moment and has no information about his campaign.

Kyrsten Sinema

Currently a Congresswoman for the 9th District in Arizona, her Senate website only has her campaign announcement at the moment. Her political positions however are placed on the center of the political scale but in the last year, has voted on positions similar to President Trump’s half of the time.
